New Confined Space Regulations

Thursday, August 13, 2015

The former standard was changed because previously, the only requirement was training. However, it was concluded by OSHA that just training was inadequate since injuries and fatalities continued to occur. The New Final Rule requires employers to determine what kinds of spaces workers are in, what hazards could be there, how the hazards should be made safe, what training workers should receive and how to rescue workers if anything goes wrong. The new regulation went into affect August 3, 2015.  All employers must have a written confined space program if workers will enter permit spaces.
